These are held once a month just after new moon period (except in Summer). We
have access to a field at a reasonably dark site about 5 miles from High
Wycombe and if it is clear, members meet from about 8.00pm. We have also started some observing sessions from
the South West Herts Astronomical Society observatory at High Top, Flaunden, near Chesham and some from the back garden
of our Chairman's house at Flackwell Heath near High Wycombe.
Members are encouraged to bring their own telescopes although you do not have to worry
if you haven't got one, there will always be some scopes there. These sessions
are ideal for beginners who need help to find their way around the sky.

Bi-annual weekends away-members only
These weekends are held at locations a long way from London with the
express purpose of getting as far away from light pollution as possible.
We try to choose locations in areas of outstanding natural beauty and preferably
close to a good pub just in case it is cloudy.
They are very popular usually attracting at least 20 people. We will
aim to 'requisition' a whole hotel/ B+B and stay for the Friday and Saturday
night (A large percentage stay for three nights). In recent years we have
been to Exmoor, Norfolk, Mid and South Wales.
You can get some idea about the sorts of places we visit by looking at a gallery of pictures
taken on one of our trips to Wales.
